ABOUT ABOUT

A small collection of panels, workshops, and readings so that you don't miss our annual conference too much! Zoom links to individual events will be emailed to all attendees after registration.

SCHEDULE

Saturday, June 27

12-2 pm           WORKSHOP: POETRY PROMPTS
Instructors: Valerie Fox (The Rorschach Factory, The Glass Book) and Lynn Levin (The Minor Virtues, Miss Plastique), co-authors of Poems for the Writing: Prompts for Poets. Poets at all levels will benefit from this engaging 2-hour Zoom session that will involve a variety of poetry-writing exercises and prompts: some timeless, some relating to current events. We’ll do in-class writing and sharing, so please be sure to have paper and pen by your side. You will finish the workshop having written several promising drafts.

3-4 pm              PANEL: WRITING & ACTIVISM
The focus of the panel will be around how writers can use their work to advance social justice, and how activists can use various forms of writing to make change. I'd like us to talk about how it works, and works differently, in various genres and various purposes. Panelists include: CA Conrad, Jeannine Cook, TS Hawkins, and Lois Moses.

7-8 pm             HAPPY HOUR
What is Philly writing? Hang out and talk about the current state of affairs in Philly, and what you’d like to see when PWC returns (hopefully) in 2021.

Sunday, June 28

11 am               BEYOND THE CLOSET: WRITING A QUEER STORY THAT ISN’T COMING OUT
So, you've written a character who happens to be queer or trans and... everybody already knows. What to do with an LGBTQ+ character who isn't angsting about coming out? What does a story with a gay superhero or a trans lab tech look like? Luckily, you can ask us!

Moderator: Michelle Nugent; Panelists: Melody Noble, Ericka Stewart, and Daralyse Lyons

1-2:30 pm       FILM YOUR BOOK: FOLLOWING THE PLOT THREAD
Using a combination of techniques from a background in writing both novels and screenplays, author Elayna Mae Darcy walks fiction writers through a beat-by-beat outline they can use to plot their novels, and shares ways to reinvigorate the creative process when they’re feeling stuck.

3-5 pm              PHILLY FLASH FICTION: A READING
Postponed from Flash Fiction Day, a selection of Philly’s finest flash fiction fashioners reading from their work. Lineup: Madeline Anthes; Ann Bracken; K.B. Carle; Andrew Chadbourne; Andres Cruciani; Josh Dale; Stephanie Feldman; Shannon Frost Greenstein; Stephanie King; Ellen Rhudy; Christina  Rosso-Schneider; Steve Stampone; Jan Starkey; Nardine Taleb
